Sunny Scarborough!

October 28th, 2008

Sunny Scarborough was great over the weekend although it did take one and a half hours to get past Warrington on Friday night!

We had a lovely day out on Saturday looking for Fairy Princess dresses in the shops and we did get on the beach for a bit………….but it was a bit cold!

Sunday was even better……………………Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1 but Megan and Amy didn’t watch it ! They decided to go and watch something called High School Musical 3 at the pictures! Hannah went to see poor blind nanny.

On Monday we went to Cayton Bay beach and the sun was shining again. I promised Megan and Hannah that I would put their pictures on so that they could see them at home in Soham.

By the way if you click on the pictures in our blog you can get bigger versions of the same photograph.

It was the last day of the first half term in Y1

October 23rd, 2008

Thanks to everyone for turning up at Parents’Evening. It was nice to meet the big people who bring the little people into school.

Our last day of half term ended with guests in our classroom from Y2 and Y4 and we made them feel very welcome as they joined in with our activities….we did wonder why Mrs Davies and Mrs Rowlands ended up in our igloos!!

And who is our Champion Child this week? It’s Harry…..keep up that great writing and look after Pablo……if you want to send in some photographs of your adventures with Pablo send them to gpyear1@gmail.com

In Y1 we try to….

Have a nice day on Monday. Mrs Cassidy is in charge because I’m on a really exciting New Literacy Framework course……I can’t wait!

I hope Liverpool are as good as Kieran!

With 50 minutes to go before kick off and the Main Stand starting to fill up I hope Liverpool play as well as our Y1 Champion Child, Kieran, has been in our class this week. Pablo the Bear went home with Kieran this week and if there are any photographs of Pablo’s adventures, or the adventures of any other bears or any of the children in our class send them to gpyear1@gmail.com

Well done Kieran

The right sounds, RM Maths, Painting and finishing writing

October 15th, 2008

No photographs I’m afraid but the day started with some great news, George and Harry went to bed early and became the third and fourth people in our class (Louise and Kieran being the other two) for getting Golden Time Stars for their efforts.

We started the day with making sure we we saying our sounds the right way and then having an alphabet quiz – the boys won by two game to one …..but it was close. Then Mrs Brankin did the KS1 assembly - all about getting on with our friends. After play everyone took their turn to go on RM Maths and we did counting and recording numbers.

After play was painting and everyone who painted was great at painting and organising. Writers finished their writing and Grandma went through the roof! Thomas got the Strange Blue Ball for being smiley!

Tuseday in Y1

October 14th, 2008

Tuesday started with play then our morning meeting. We did some phonic work after that on the interactive whiteboard and then…………….”Whatever the Weather Walk” Look at the leaves on the trees around the school because we used the for our own ideas.  When we came back from play we did our shared writing, thinking about connectives and WOW words, capital letters and full stops….some commas were also spotted.

Once ideas were discussed it was individual writing at the Busy Blue Quiet Table and there are were some great ideas and independent writing. Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Rutherford were there to help with reading.

Lunchtime came and went…….just in time to dodge the rain. We watched www.teachers.tv/video/1773 and talked about wether Beth was living or not living…..and why? Can you send in the reasons for a living thing to be living – one Golden Time Star for anyone who sends in their right answers! Then we completed our number work and writing and computing and drawing and iglooing and shopping and town building and ….tidying up and, finally, found out a bit what happened to Grandma. And finally finally…..Happy Birthday Lewis!

Here are a few bits of Tuesday.[rockyou 124729421]

Oh and thanks to Mrs Boswarva for the first bits of things for our den building activities.

Monday

October 13th, 2008

We started with P.E. and with the weather being fine we made perhaps the last use of outside. After play was number work with ways to count on to “teen” numbers. A couple of things we will be picking up on is writing numbers the right way round and reading “teen” numbers. After lunch we did reading with Mrs Caddick and Miss Treanor, while Mrs Rowlands looked at the Salford Reading Test, and we shared the story of the boy in the park and his kite. We carried on with the number work as well. Once the classroom was tidied up we carried on finding out about George’s wonderful concoction for his old granny!

Here is (part) of our day!![rockyou 124665364]

This week

October 12th, 2008

This week we will be doing P.E. on Monday and Thursday.

Monday Afternoon is reading afternoon. As well as own book reading we will be finding out about “Going to the Park” This is a story about a little boy and his kite…..so if you have a kite……bring it in to school.

At the moment we still read individually but we will be moving onto Group Reading shortly. Mrs Caddick helps with this and on Tuesday Mrs Kennedy lends a hand. We will also be starting our Sounds~Write activities and this will help when we do our class writing about our “Whatever the Weather Walk.” We use this to try and develop our written vocabulary using WOW words, connectives, capital letters and full stops.

Our play activities are great for devleoping social skills as well as extending and enhancing speech…..and we might even sneak onto the new play equipment outside Reception’s class……but don’t tell the widgy kids in Reception.

“Living Things” is the  Science topic we are looking at  so the story from  http://www.teachers.tv/video/1773 will be helpful and as well as this we are going to making sure we know the names of different parts of the body.

Knowing number bonds to 10 ( 9 + 1, 8 + 2, 7 + 3, 6 + 4, 5 + 5) is our aim for the week and maybe finding out how to use more than two numbers to make 10, 3 + 2 + 5 is a different way of doing the same thing. Developing consistent counting skills is another of the things will be doing. Wednesday is RM Maths day and there will be time for a bit of counting Bingo.

Barnaby Bear’s adventure to Wales is going to looked at this week and to show where he went we will be using Google Earth. He went to a cottage called Penberry Cottage which is just outside Britain’s smallest city, St. Davids.

Painting kites will be the Art activity for this week.

George’s Marvellous Medicine is our end of day story – if you have it at home don’t tell anyone what the ending is.

The homework booklet doesn’t need to be brought in yet. If it could be completed by half term that would be great and if anyone has bits and pieces for den building please bring them in.
