An ICT friend of mine, John Sutton, finds lots of different kinds of ICT resources. Here is one to try that is completely daft but fun!

Once everyone has finished their Openoffice shape picture on Friday maybe Miss Hartley will let you have a go!!

How good is this………………..

February 27th, 2008

When we do RM Maths in the ICT Suite we split into groups so that everyone is one to one on a pc. While one group does RM Maths the other group stays behind and does some other number work. Last week we started number facts to 10 and we had four children  who knew their facts perfectly……………………..well this week is was just a little bit different!

This time it was Ryan and Jordan and Elizabeth and Aidan and Andrew and Mia and Bethany and Kira and Courtney and Faye and Billy and Sean and Isabella and Kyle and Joel and George and Nathan. Fanatastic!

Charlie and George and Lily and Rachael and Sadie and Jack are very nearly there.

There will be a picture of our champions very soon!

Boing! Boing!

The whole school had a go at basketball today. It was great fun especially as we decided to go into the hall because it was too cold outside!

Shape is the new theme in Numeracy and if you try http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks1bitesize/numeracy/shapes/index.shtml

there are lots of activities to do with 2D and 3D shapes……and one or two tricky questions but…….

And don’t forget you can see James Blunt singing about triangles by clicking on http://year1.greenparkschool.org.uk/2007/11/25/james-blunt-triangles-computers-and-champion-child/

This afternoon we did Guided Reading and Big Purple Book writing……..Aidan did really well again ….he wasn’t the only one. Y1 are getting good at using their sounding out skills to help with their own independent spelling.

Toast and Ryan

February 24th, 2008

We had a great time on Friday morning. The Reception class came into school in their pyjamas so we joined them for registration and Mrs Hogan made toast for us at playtime. It was lovely. Thankyou Reception.

Ryan is this week’s Champion Child. He has been doing lots of reading at home and he has worked really hard with his number facts to 10. Well done Ryan.

Pablo and Joel…..and number facts!

February 21st, 2008

Two pieces of news for us. The first is that Joel had a go on the Maths Magician website……and he was great because he got two certificates and he brought them into school to show us. Well done Joel. We have been doing number facts and Elizabeth, Caitlin, Nathan and George are our number fact to 10 champions. They know all their number facts straight away and don’t even use their fingers. Fantastic! They are  moving on to learning their number facts to 20. How good is that!

A bit of bad news is that Pablo has been a bit naughty on his travels to Madrid. He was with Miss Newham at the airport and annoyed a few people by trying to get to the front of the queue getting on the plane. I hope he improved his behaviour when he got to San Ildefonso because if he didn’t he wont be allowed to go on any more adventures!!

There will be some photographs of Pablo and his friends on the Reception and Y3 Blog.

Aidan and his amazing Big Purple Writing Book…..and Open Office

February 16th, 2008

Here is a picture of Aidan and his amazing Big Purple Writing Book. Everyone did some indpendent writing and pictures about what they did on their school holiday and Aidan’s work was beautiful and there was lots of it. Great work Aidan.

On Fiday we had a fab time in ICT. We used Open office Draw to produce shape patterns in different colours and sizes. Everyone caught on to these IT skills really quickly andd the really, really, really great thing is that Open Office is a completely free program that is just like Microsoft Office (which costs loads!) and can be downloaded at www.openoffice.org  It is a great program, try it. If you have any problems downloading it come and see me…….or ask the children!

And this week’s Champion Child is………….
