Painting and lots of other stuff
This morning we did our ideas for Big Write including Rubbish Writing (we got rid of wow words, capital letters and full stops). For Numeracy we used the Activ voting system…..one or two pods didn’t register but with our ten more and ten less and one more and one less questions we were scoring about 80% success.
The afternoon started with reading the story about the princes then we went on to Paint’n'play ……painting the story in groups, playing with play dough, RM maths and whiteboard work. Here are this affternoon’s photographs……………

We had a mixed day today. No Sounds~Write but loads of alphabet work so that we know letter names and sounds, quizzes and races, pictures and writing….it all helps.
http://www.playkidsgames.com/games/alphabetGame/alphabet.htm
One more, one less and ten more ten less of numbers up to 100 was our numeracy work for today and we had a great go at thinking how we say and write instructions….try it at home!
The story of Flat Stanley continued today…..he went on his holidays in an envelope and rescued his mum’s favourite ring through a grid in the road …it seems to be great fun if you’re flat!!
After doing some tidying up and a bit of IT stuff if was time for home…..raining again but “Sam’s Town” by The Killers is quite nice to walk home to. After a cup of coffee it was time for a quick round on Tiger Woods 2008 on the Nintendo Wii, not brilliant on the matchplay but the first two holes on the Atlanta course left me two under after two holes!!
Tomorrow its using Activ vote for our numeracy and its Big Write ideas day and in the afternoon its paint and play……..while I was tidying up I found an alphabet bakery kit!!
By the way it was Mrs Rowland’s birthday today….some of her so called friends in the staffroom suggested she looks about 73!!! I had to make sure that they all knew she is a very sprightly 46!!

I missed the football this morning but I was told al the chidren were fabulous….keep it up there some teams locally who could do with a new player or two!
This afternoon we had a bash at Sounds~Write. Mr Rafferty’s group is doing the different ways of making the “I” sound….i, (diamond) ie, (tie) y, ( cry) igh, (night) and the split vowel diagraph i_e (time). We did a bit of independent writing, guided reading and started reading Flat Stanley. Jordan told us about the motorbike show he went to see at the new Liverpool Echo Arena – it sounded great….but very loud.
Now, because Mrs Rafferty has gone to the gym, I have to decide what to do for tea…..any suggestions. I might look in my famous chef cookery books………………or I might open a jar of stuff and put some chicken with it! Decisions, decisions!

We started on Friday with our Morning Book and had a chat about home writing in our Blue Books. Friday is Big Write day so we had got out the writing candle, the chocolate, the quiet music and our paper and had a go at writing about this picture…..
…….using Wow words, sentence connecters, full stops, capital letters and our poshest handwriting.
After play we did some ICT and everyone had a go on RM maths and then a bit of Knowledge box…we pinched some laptops from the juniors but make sure you don’t tell them because we can use them again next week.
After lunch the Reception class joined us for registration and then we presented Isabella her certificate for being this week’s Y1 Champion Child.
Once we did the presentations we used the last bit of working time this week to finish our paper folding books and then had our last play of the week
After play was Golden Time and Y2 and Reception came in for a second Green Park’s got Talent. We also had to say good bye to Miss Cook who has been with us since September on a Nursery Nurse course. She starts a new placement on Monday so we wish her well and thank her for all her hard work and the way she has supported the children during her time with us. Well done Miss Cook.
See you all next week and if you can think of ideas for Golden Time send them in to us and we will have a go at them next Friday.

We started the week with with our balancing, jumping and landing PE lesson. We watched ourselves back in the classroom on the big screen. Learning to take off, land safely on our feet, balance for three seconds and not use our hands to stop moving forward is quite tricky but we get a little bit better each week and pracice makes perfect.
In Numeracy this week we are setting out our number sentences in our green numeracy book making sure that we do “one number one square” and we use either counters or a number line to work out our take away sums. Charlie has been great and has improved lots and lots but…guess what ? he’s not the only one. Mrs Rowlands and I have been very impressed with the hardworking, independent approach of lots of our children in Numeracy. Mrs Brankin from Y2 has noticed this as well and she was especially pleased with the careful work.
We have, of course carried on with Sounds~Write and the sounding out skills of our Y1 children is very good – keep it up.
We had our Tuesday “Whatever the Weather Walk” today and noticed lots of new plants pushing up and flowering. We saw some daffodils, snowdrops and a single crocus as well as two bird homes, number 4 and number 2.
We had a senses Science lesson based on materials and nearly everyone guessed what their  material was even though they had to guess with a blindfold. I hope there was no peeking!
We are starting to get lots of Blue Book Home writing which is really fab news and the comments from mums, dads, grans and grandads in the Green Reading books are brilliant – keep them coming.
There will be some photographs and videos on soon but they take a little bit longer and there are just one or two other things that need to be done at the moment so have a nice evening and we’ll see you tomorrow in school.

We had a busy week in Y1 and Friday was no exception. We had a first go with our Morning Books, an activity that starts the day. We started this by writing three Y1/Y2 High Frequency Words quickly three times. Other days it might involve answering some numeracy questions, it can be a different thing each day.
Then it was time for Big Write. http://www.andrelleducation.co.uk/about.ros.php . We had an Big Idea day on Wednesday and then used our WOW words and sentence connectives and punctuation on Friday to help make our writing better. We have quiet music, the writing candle and a sweet or two to help our concentration skills. We will be doing this everyweek and if you have any ideas for Big Write or would like a sentence or two to appear on the blog send it in.
After (indoor) play we did ICT and learned about the keyboard. We learned how to improve our keyboard skills by using the space bar, the delete buttons and the direction keys to move the cursor around the page. Everyone chose a book from the Book Box and typed a sentence or two and drew a picture using 2publish http://www.2simple.com/ivt/
(anyone who sends in a comment can take 2publish home and try it out – even if you are not in Y1)
We managed to run around on the playground for a bit at lunchtime and when we came back we finished out painting and Three Little Pigs art activity. Everyone said Mrs Cassidy sneaked into the classroom and took some of our felt tips but I didn’t see her!
Sadie was awarded Y1’s Champion Child and she is taking Oscar the Bear to meet Lenny Henry next week……….we hope she gets a photograph to bring back to school.
Then it was Golden Time. We were supposed to have lots of different activities this week but the weather and Y6 in the hall messed that up so we had a Green Park’s Got Talent show with all the infants in the Y1 classroom.

Happy New Year to everyone. The children have come back to school and settled in really well.
Today we started by talking about how important practicing reading is. Rachael, Aidan and Andrew do lots and lots of reading at home.
While everyone got changed for PE the apparatus in the hall was put out. We had a great time and there are some photographs at http://www.greenparkschool.phanfare.com/ (I would put them on as a Rockyou slidshow, embedded int the blog, but Sefton prevent us from watching them)
After PE we met Harriet Half, twin sister of Dora the Explorer, and did a bit of finding out about things that can be split in half. You can view the presentation we had by clicking on
Lunch time was a bit cold, blowy and wet so spent most of the time inside which meant we had to do a bit of tidying up before we started Sounds~Write, Big Purple Writing and Guided Reading.
Before it was home time, and as we are looking at Fairy Tales, we watched http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/tweenies/storytime/stories/3littlepigs/
Then we went out onto the cold, grey playground to go home. Best wishes to Ryan who had a bump at playtime and had to go home. Hope to see you soon.

Thursday is the first day in school in 2008. Welcome back and we look forward to seeing you back in school. We are doing PE so don’t forget your kit.
Have a lovely last day of your holidays, make sure your shoes fit, your jumper is not stuffed stuffed in the back of the cubboard and your coat is not full of holes!
By the way I’m not quite sure quite where the music on our blog has come from …..but it sounds nice!Â
