This week…..so far!

Welcome back to Y1. We hope everyone had a lovely holiday (there were some adventures by all accounts) and we are now back to school.
Monday started with Jordan coming into Y1 for his first day and we had Numeracy (a bit of money), a bit of P.E. (apparatus …………….and Jack can get to the top of the ropes and back), abit of Sounds~Write, a bit of guided reading, a bit of alphabet and a bit of Flat Stanley.
Tuesday
We started with Reading Club, and then Sounds~Write. After that we went on our Tuesday “Whatever the Weather Walk” and armed with our magnifying glasses went exploring. What we found was quite unusual……….the moon was in the sky…….someone spotted it and wanted to know why………..anybody got any answers. When we came back we had Numeracy (money again) and then went for lunch. After lunch we played the Fabulous Dictionary Alphabet game. To get to go out for last play everyone had to get four points…………….luckily they did! We did our alphabet worksheet when we got back and carried on with Flat Stanley.
Wednesday! Assembly started with chairs for cheerful children……Kira was the first one out. Then we did some Sounds~Write and started our story writing by looking at three different scenes and deciding which one was best for our story. We chose the one that Kyle said was like “an erupting volcano” . Then we did some Circle Time, then Numeracy and in the afternoon, because it was Wednesday it was Paint’n'Play and individual readers.
We went home with lots of letters………don’t forget to send the multi-skills letter back we need it for Friday.

Lily – I was freezing when I was waiting but I was warm when I went through the willow.
Isabella – I swished the branches through the tunnel of doom.
Sean - It was scratchy and it was soggy and I was happy when I got through.
Caitlin – When I went through I had to stop because the rough branches were in my way.
Kyle – When I went through the tunnel of doom I needed to push the rough branches out of my way and climbed over the bench I was happy because I got through.
Rachael – I was cold when I went through the willow and I was happy when I got through.
Jack – When I bent down in the tunnel of doom I was cold.
Mia – I heard a quiet snapping noise.Â
Andrew – I heard all the leaves scrunching and the sticks snapping.
Faye – It looks like the leaves are falling down to the floor like rushing from side to side.
Billy – It was screeching and scratching and I was pushing and shoving the snappy branches and I was pulling the leaves so I can see and I saw a wasp and it never stung me because I was very careful.
Bethany – I heard a wasp and it didn’t sting me.
Sadie – I was moving my arms like I was swimming in a windy, bashy sea.
Elizabeth – I moved the leaves and they were soft like slippers.
Kira – The leaves crunched like a caterpillar eating the leaves. (thanks Caitlin)
George – I didn’t stop because I ran and before I got out I heard the crunching sound of leaves.
Ryan – I heard a bee sound in the tunnel and I ran fast on the grass and saw a stick on the floor.
Charlie – I moved the branches carefully and I ran through them.

Last Monday seems a very long time ago! It was, I seem to remember, the start of the Widget Wars! We do seem to have become obsessed with them but we all think that they add a bit of fun and individuality to our blogs. As one eminent and regular visitor to our site said, “They are widgetastic”.
Back in class last week we found out about the 2 Pus and 3 Pus. They are creatures that live at the bottom of the sea and love counting in 2’s and 3’s! We did some creative writing about the Tunnel of Doom (Jack’s title) and of course Sounds~Write. We did some rules for writing on Friday and everyone produced beautiful, neat, on the line, and with hellos and goodbyes writing. Great.
During Wednesday’s paint’n'play we started making boxes for conkers-not everyone started (they do take a little time because you have to do really careful cutting and folding) so we will carry those on this week. Sadly the Strange Blue Ball didn’t get given out on Wednesday because we hadn’t finished tidying up before “Hips don’t lie” had finished! Never mind…..Friday was much better.
The Harvest Festival service was very nice and all our children (and the other ones as well) read and behaved excellently. Thank you for all the support through the donations.
We are working on what makes a living thing a living thing……….George came up with the idea that all living things grow…………….which of course they do! Any other ideas?
Mrs Cassidy was in charge on Thursday while I was delving into the wonderful world of computer problems!
We had our celebration assembly on Friday afternoon…….well done Kyle……………then we went home!

I have to apologise for not including much curriculum information recently…………….its just that the pursuit of widgets is becoming an everyday, necessary task! One day we will get back to normal.

The 2nd October started with a quick assembly to meet our new spanish teacher who comes from Catalonia, she is called Begonia and came to join us for our Numeracy lesson. She had her first go with an interactive whiteboard and was very good. She stayed to help. We were also joined by Mr Sutton from http://www.creativeict.co.uk who was in school to arrange a blogging course for Sefton and the ICT Mark.
Before Numeracy we did a science quiz in the classroom about things that are living and things that are not living. Then we went outside and did a voting quiz on the playground.
After lunch we did Sounds~Write and listened to Pablo the Bear talk about how he is fed up hearing about Barnaby Bear……we think he is a bit jealous! So instead of finding out about Barnaby we told Pablo about our own adventures……..we found out about N.W.B.
We finished the day with George’s Marvellous Medicine…………………….what will happen to grandma next?????

We had a guest in our class today, a little boy called Jordan who came on a visit to find out if he liked Y1. We think he did and everybody was very kind and caring towards him. A special thanks to Ryan and Andrew and Sadie who were very helpful throughout the day.
Our activities today started with a school assembly. Rachel from our class was one of the children in the school who recieved the Award of the Special Blu Tak for her listening and being ready skills in the hall. Then we gave out our stickers for Walk to School week. We know not everyone can walk to school but parking the car a bit further away and walking the extra gets a badge. After stickers we had a go at P.E. outside on the playground – hoola hoops, skipping ropes, tennis balls and footballs were all used and we had great fun!
We got changed back into our uniform after play and even though some of us managed to get our trousers on the wrong way we did look pretty respectable.
For our Numeracy lesson we are looking at counting forwards and backwards. Jordan had his firs go on the interactive whiteboard and using a number line. If you want to download our worksheet and print it at home click on the link:
microsoft-word-1-more-1-less.pdf
It can be made harder by changing it to two more and two less or even three more and three less. Kyle worked his socks off and got three Golden Stars because he got to the three more and three less bit!
After lunch we did Sounds~Write in our groups, had our literactive.com story and writing (Charlie’s writing was beautiful and Lily did lots of her own sentences – brilliant!) After last play two groups did Guided Reading and we finished the day with the next bit of George’s Marvellous Medicine. Ryan got the strange blue ball and then we went home.
Well done everyone!
We gave out blue home writing books. These are for sentences at home (and pictures) and once they are done bring them in (once a week) for us to look at. Take care of them, do your best writing and try and think of some good words to put in.
By the way, well done to Jack, Elizabeth and Charlie for being Y1’s Champion Children. You can see their photographs at www.celebration.greenparkschool.org.uk
There are already lots of candidates for this week’s Champion Child!
