Mrs Cassidy had a go at WOW words from the Big Write. Here are some of the sentences that we came up with after we had had a good look at this picture.

“It makes me feel all warm and snug” – Sadie

“It makes me feel tired” – Faye

“It makes me feel like going up into the clouds” – Nathan

“It makes me feel like going to the circus” – Kyle

“It makes me feel like flying” – Aidan

“The clouds look like a dragon and when the sun shines it gets brighter.” – George

“There are shapes in the sky and lots of clouds” – Kira

If you can put WOW words into sentences, send them in and we’ll publish them on the blog.

I think we might have a go at saying our WOW words tomorrow and record them on a podcast……………keep your ears peeled!

Tuesday

September 18th, 2007

Well today we ………………………….lstarted with Reading Club and then learned about number facts to 10. We want to know them and say them quickly………….10+0=      9+1=    8+2=      7+3=     6+4=      5+5 =

Then we went around the school with our magnifying glasses and looked closely at lots of different things – there were one or two creepy crawlies! We had a go at Sounds~Write and then had a story about The Big Red Strawberry. After lunch we sang about our number facts and did the Three Tick Test! The adventures of Barnaby followed – this time he told us about his week in South West Wales. We finished with the end of the story about The Beast with a Thousand Teeth. Then we went home!

Tuesday’s whatever the weather walk

September 11th, 2007

Each Tuesday we go on our “Whatever the Weather Walk” around the school’s grounds. Today we looked at  leaves on the trees that are starting to change colour, the cage where the lions, tigers and bears are kept and then we had an extra especial surprise………….Y5 and Y6 climbing up a mountain! We watched get to to the top and back to the ground with their safety hareness. It was great and the big kids in the juniors did really well!

As well as our walk we started our number bonds to 10, did some Sounds~Write phonic work, followed the adventures of Barnaby Bear to Blackpool and had a sounds quiz.

Jack got The Strange Blue Ball to take home tonight because of his hard work and lovely manners. Well done………..and look after the ball!

Curriculum Websites

September 9th, 2007

There are lots of curriculum websites on the right hand side of our blog. These are updated quite regularly but another way of of listing website “favourites” is by using del.iciou.us http://del.icio.us/ which is a fab way of storing and sorting all your favourites online and for them to shared. http://del.icio.us/raff31 is my own del.icio.us account and another one is http://del.icio.us/creativeict/ which provides access to excellent educational resources and viewpoints.

The most recent addition is http://mathsblog.co.uk/ which is great for Numeracy………….try it and see!

Day Two

September 6th, 2007

This morning we started straight away with Sounds~Write, followed by P.E. After first play we did some counting and sorting and ordering and writing numbers. After lunch we had a Knowledge Box animation all about different parts of the body and some painting and some cutting and some sticking…………………..and finished it all off with our story about Lazy Jack. Definitely not a story about the children in Y1!

Here are some links for helping with counting.

The first day!

September 5th, 2007

We had a very busy day for our first day. Once we had worked out where to put everything and and had a chat about our holidays with the strange blue ball we did some writing and started our name tags. Then it was assembley, a bit more name tagging, finishing writing and then lunch.

After lunch we were introduced to The Number Crew http://www.teachers.tv/video/2378 and we did some underwater counting ! After last play we started some finger puppets of The Number Crew and had a story about Norman the brilliant goldfish. Then we went home. Have we really been away for six weeks!
