We start each day with our Ten a Day sums. After we put our books away we get our reading books out. Three or four of us read out loud to the class in the Green Reading Chair. Today Red read so clearly and expressively we recorded his story. Here it is

Rockyou

June 19th, 2007

By going to www.rockyou.com fabulous, different and creative multimedia presentations can be made. It is very, very easy. Look at the front page of the blog and the first on our Y1 blog.

Some of the photographs show Mr and Mr Dunbar flying their two and a half metre kite (for our Pushes and Pulls topic) and the rest are photographs of Y1 out and about, doing different things.

Pushes and Pulls

June 18th, 2007

Today we are going to continue with our Pushes and Pulls.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/5_6/pushes_pulls.shtml

We will look at the website in class and then go to the ICT room to work in pairs on the different activities.

The we will use Spark Island to carry on with the Instructions work for ICT. This is a program that sits on on our server and can’t, unfortunately, be accessed from home.

Liverpool Bear

June 17th, 2007

Liverpool Bear, who arrived in Y1 at Christmas, is going to be spending the summer in Maine, U.S.A. at Camp Wildwood http://www.campwildwood.com/index.htm

He was supposed to go on Friday but…………………………….well apart from the suitcase being packed but left open the night before just in case anything last minute needed putting in and then finding out that the zip was broken at 6.00 am and then a journey to ASDA to buy (the last one in the shop) one at 6.15 and then repacking at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 short stay car park ……………………………he was left behind! So he will have to be packed up in his own little case and sent of on his own adventure!

I hope everyone had a nice time with Mrs Reed’s guitar, Mrs Cassidy’s story book and multiplication, Mrs Rowland and Mrs Daviessss (I don’t quite know where to put the s at the end) activities and Miss Gibson’s Celebration assembly.

What’s that coming over the hill?

June 6th, 2007

Today started with the fab new addition to Knowledge Box……in school computer messaging. Y5 joined us this morning and they are going to have a go tomorrow. But we got there first and it was great! Then we identified some more pushes and pulls and went out to play with our sunscreen and hats…… thanks for providing this so quickly.

After play we did Sounds~Write and tally charts with block graphs …… but not all together!

After lunch it was “WHAT’S THAT COMING OVER THE HILL? IS IT A MONSTER?”

We used the song by The Automatic as our inspiration for our Moving Pictures topic. We had some great ideas!

You can find a version of the song at http://www.myspace.com/theautomatic

Tuesday

June 5th, 2007

Pushes and Pulls was the theme for the morning. Click on the link and there are some activities that can be done to help http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/5_6/pushes_pulls.shtmlhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/5_6/pushes_pulls.shtml

In the afternoon we used 2go to learn about giving computers instructions and we started to find out how to log on to the computer and find out about searching the computer for the right program.

We also discussed Slip, Slop, Slap!

We have said to Y1 that they should bring in a hat to wear and some sunscreen ( they cannot share it with their friends and they have to put their own on) to wear when the weather is hot……………like today.

If you have any queries or questions, send a message or come and see us.
