……..and this was Friday…………
…………………..During Registration we watched a KB video about taking away then went to Mrs Reeds singing assembly. After that we did a bit of fine handwriting of letters a and d. Sounds easy but starting on the line, not taking the pencil off the paper and finishing on the line is quite tricky. Once first play had finished we looked at number sentences, looked at some tomatoes falling off a number line and finally did a worksheet……..kind of like the one for homework. After lunch, with Mr Eddie Gray, we went outside of school and found out about crossing the road. (see our photographs at www.greenparkschool.phanfare.com )He said that we were one of the best behaved classses that he has met! ………………..and he has met loads. We met Uncle Matty when we were out. He is the partner of one of our famous ex pupils Laura (now Miss Cooper because she just starting out as a teacher in Southport) who came to our school and was great. Her twin brother (David) is currently (mums and dads might have met him) one of the senior members of the Hare and Hounds bar staff.
After all this we had our Celebrity Assembly. Very well done Laura you really do deserve to be Campion Child. When we came back to class we gave out our Golden Goal certificates, uniform orders, reading books, David’s birthday sweets, dinner money change…………………………………………………………………….said good afternoon to everyone and then………………………………………………..went home.
By the way what was the colour of Mrs Cassidy’s shirt? We are going to have a poll.

Our day started with patterns and carefully staying inside the lines…….not as easy as it first looks. After this we completed our shared writing on the whiteboard by writing sentences and using joining words like and, and so. Elliot noticed that we started three of our sentences with “We” so everybody tried to think of different starting words.
After play we did counting on and counting backwards as well as using our counting in tens skills to help count more quickly. Then we did some subtracting on the bus (we are doing more tomorrow).
A quick bit of Sounds~Write followed – Jemma, Hollie, Ben Tom, Thomas, Leah, Jesscia, reece, Red and Tilly really tried hard and are coming along very nicely with their sounds.
Following lunch we did ICT. The first bit was about how sounds can help us with information – like doorbells and police and ambulance sirens. Then, because of our grand pizza day tomorrow, we used Paint to draw pizzas. The printer was a bit jammed (someone in Y5 but not with paper) so we saved them instead and will print tomorrow (the printer was unjammed with a fine piece of technical jigerary pokery after school). Once our piece of work was finished we went on the website and found different things to use. After all this was done we got our coats and bags and hats and scarves and……………………………………wernt home.Â

This week in Literacy we are:
*finding out about dictionaries and how to put words into alphabetical order.Â
*Looking at information books (non-fiction)
*Sounds~Write
In Numeracy we are doing adding and subtracting of numbers up to 30 by using a number line as well as getting better at number bonds up to 10 and 20.
For Science we will be investigating different kinds of materials to find out good words to describe them and what the materials are used for.
ICT is how we find out about different kinds of information and what can be used to record ideas.
P.E. is our continuing quest for that perfect gymnastic sequence. As well as 3 balances in a sequence we are going to try to put a forward roll in the middle of our 3 second balances! Fingers crossed.
We have a special event on Friday because as part of our Sefton Travel Awareness Course we will be walking down Green Link to learn about safe roadside skills.
We are currently in serious discussions with Y2 to make pizzas sometime this week so if you have a favourite topping then keep that speciality in mind.
If there are any ideas for our class poll send in your ideas.
See you all on Monday……..it has been quite a good weekend………..Liverpool coming up on the rails!!

One of Green Park’s pupils from a very long time ago, Steven Rule, has gone to Whistler in Canada to work (he used to be one of the star chefs at The Hare and Hounds). While he has been there he met a friend who would like to say “hello” to everyone at school. The new bear is called Mounty and when Stephen comes back to the UK Mounty might just come to visit Green Park. (Can anyone think why the new bear is called Mounty?)

The winner of the “What do you like best about school?” poll was “meeting my friends”. Funnily enough there was a recent survey discussed on Radio 5 about what grown ups liked best about their job. The winner of that survey was……………… “friends”.
Our new poll is to do with what we like doing best in school.

We had a lovely day today.
First we had assembly and then our first PE lesson of the new year. We were great at moving and balancing (and knowing why we warm up – thanks Abigail…she knew exactly). We started by balancing in exciting positions with our feet, then we had to move into a two feet one hand balance. Finally we had to make a balance of out own choice. Elliot had some great ideas. Once we had completed this we had to work with a partner to do exactly the same actions as each other.
After play we did “Counting in 2’s” helped by the Number Crew. Counting in 2’s helps us with our counting and begins to start us with our times tables. We worked very hard and even got onto odd and even numbers. We were helped by the Number Crew. You can watch soome episodes of the Number Crew at home by clicking on the link below

After a wet play lunch we went for a walk round school looking for big puddles (and found some very big ones), saw some daffodils starting to grow and had a look at the building work.
Then we did Guided Reading as well as starting to learn about how to write a recount of an event. We have chosen to do our visit to the Southport Theatre. We finished the day with a story.
We worked really hard today and had a lovely time. Mrs Cassidy was very tired at the end of the day. Tomorrow she is going to see what it is like in Y2!

Sydney Bear has sent us a photograph. I think that he want to go to Haiwai because he is wearing his special clothes. He probably doesn’t think the weather is hot enough! Maybe he is a bit fed up of the cricket.
He was going to go to the wedding of his cousin Samantha but her boyfriend is in the Australian army and he was posted to Afghanistan.
Uncle Keith and Auntie Pam are very well and recently had a visit from the relatives from South Wales in the United Kingdom.
