Mr Rafferty was very disappointed!

December 24th, 2006

Mr Rafferty plays football on Thursday at Burscough Sports Centre. Last Thursday there was a vote for Player of the Year. Unfortnately Mr Rafferty did not get the award so we are having a vote on our website to redress this great injustice. If you would like to vote please do.

Our Christmas Party

December 18th, 2006

This afternoon we had a great Christmas party. We did dancing and games and had lots of food to eat. We played, Pass the Parcel, Corners and the bubble game. It was great fun !

There were lots of helpers to set out the food and drinks and help with all the games. Thank you very much to everyone who helped and for all the food, gifts and prizes that were donated.

We have some pictures at the ususal address www.greenparkschool.phanfare.com

Bridge Hall Primary School

December 16th, 2006

Green Park’s Blog is unusual in terms of school websites because it is a “blog” rather than the traditional style website. Because it is a blog it is much easier to present information to it’s viewers. If you can type into a word processor you can blog! Of course there are other bits and pieces connected to the blog that are slightly more complicated but no more so really than doing an attachment to an email. Consequently, rather than a whole school’s information being funnelled through one person and that one person having the very onerous task of “doing” the website, a blog becomes a much simpler, shared and collaborative activity.

As a consequence of using the blogging route for our school we have entered the educational blogging community whose ideals very much extol the virture of collaborating and sharing and especially with the view of using ICT (especially the school blog) as a tool for creative teaching. We feel that our blog has set us of on the start of a very exciting road of development that will be of great benefit to our teachers, parents and children. It also helps us with the process of collaboration. If you scan through the comments section of different blogs you will find that there are lovely comments from children at Bridge Hall Primary School. Their school has just started to blog and to help them see what can be achieved through blogging they were encouraged to visit our site and send comments. If you would like to look at their blog, www.bridgehallprimary.net and perhaps leave an encouraging comment or two they would really appreciate it. Our children and staff find this particular bit of our blog particularly rewarding.

One very helpful bit of this connection with Bridge Hall (which is in Stockport) would be to redress the voting balance of the Year 1 favourite football team poll! There are a few Manchester United supporters there (slightly surprising seeing they are in Manchester……I could have understood it if it was a London school!) and one activity they seemed to enjoy was voting! However they have a football poll too and our Y5 and Y6 children have strict instructions to visit their site and vote!!

Quite a serious post for once, but a nice one. Unfortunately, its Saturday morning and I can hear the cash tills of ASDA calling “come on Mr Rafferty its time to do your shopping!”

Ralph the Reindeer

December 14th, 2006

After weeks and weeks of practice we completed our run of “Ralph the Reindeer”. The children have really worked very hard and they were determined to do their best for their friends, the rest of the children at Green Park and for the mums and dads, brothers and sisters, aunties and uncles, grannies and grandads and for themselves. We were very pleased and proud of their performance and they deserve a rest, a cup of tea (preferably Earl Grey) and a choccy biccy. If there are other (nice!) things you think they deserve please leave a comment.

There are some pics on phanfare…………….www.greenparkschool.phanfare.com       from the dress rehearsal. If there are pictures you would like to share please email them to me at raff31@gmail.com

I have also recorded the songs from tonight’s show and once I have done the fiddly bits with them I will put them on the site although Mrs Brankin was sitting quite close to the recorder…..and she was singing…………..and ………………children shouldn’t be frightened by strange noises!!

The children did very well in their dress rehearsal and all the big kids (and the tiny ones) thought they were great. The wrote some lovely cards to say thankyou.

Now for tomorrow!

A very busy week

December 12th, 2006

We have had a very busy week and it is only Tuesday! Y1 and Y2 are getting ready for their dress rehearsal of “Ralph the Reindeer” on Wednesday and then the big performances on Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening. Today we tried our costumes on and we looked fantastic.

We hope, after all the hard work we have put in, that you enjoy our show. The plan, as well as providing a DVD recording, is to record some songs and put them out on www.solidcast.com as a downloadable file and some pictures at www.greenparkschool.phanfare.com

As you can see, we have had some additional features installed. Some take a little time getting used to…….and finding out how they work. Starting a website is a very illuminating business. If you want to find out more about the world of educational blogging there are two sites to visit.

http://www.creativeict.co.uk/

and one produced by Peter Ford

http://www.ict4schools.info/ontheroad/

Have a look at these. They do provide lots of information, ideas and thoughts about the way the world of the internet and weblogging in particular can help children learn and teachers teach creatively.

It still gives you goosebumps!

First poll winner

December 10th, 2006

The winner of our first class poll was the Sniff Snuff song.

We have a new poll running now. I know its football but I couldn’t think of anything more interesting at the moment. If you have a better idea, and I’m sure you must do, then send it in.

Just testing

December 7th, 2006

We have had an upgrade with some fancy features (although all my links have disappeared). I think that I can write with different colours.

I can put google videos on

There are other things which will appear as the weeks go on!
