Wednesday

November 29th, 2006

Wednesday was …………………….

Well we started with a way of adding past 10. Then we went to watch Y5’s assembly. After that we went for our Tuesday “whatever the weather walk”………..I know it’s Wednesday but we didn’t go yesterday so we went today instead! Mrs Cassidy came with us so we went in search of different and unusal patterns on the floor, wall, grids, trees……and anything else…… and we found lots, so we took some rubbings of them. It was fab. We found loads of different stuff for rubbing and everyone had a go. You can see our pictures (and one of the anti – bullying assembly from Friday at www.greenparkschool.phanfare.com )

Then we used Y1′classroom for Christmas Play practice. Learning words, songs and actions is pretty hard work.

During lunch Mr Hewer and Mr Rafferty put the stage up in the hall. Mrs Cassidy went to college and Ryan forgot to tell Mr Rafferty that Mrs Cassidy said goodbye. We hoped to use it after lunch but Y3 had a PE lesson and Foundation Stage used it for their play. Never mind we moved all the tables in Y1, used red cones for the stage, got the instruments out and sang our songs. (I recorded some and will put them on our solidcasts site as soon as I can work out how the new bit of technical stuff we bought for podcasts works).

While Y1 and Y2 children worked hard (especially Alex in Y2 who is losing his voice) Mrs Beeston went in search of costumes! She did a great job and once we have sorted out all the different bits and pieces we will send a letter to say what each character needs.

We just about finished just before home time and Mr Rafferty tricked Y1 into not thinking he was going to say, “good afternoon Y1″ . It always works!! He he!

Have a nice evening everyone and lets all hope that Liverpool win tonight!

Tomorrow its Mr Rafferty’s little boy Luke’s 18th birthday. When he was really little he came to Green Park School as well. He loved it in Reception because he could dress up in the Spiderman outfit!!

Tuesday

November 28th, 2006

Today we started with squared paper drawing. We drew a house of today shape and a big house from a long time ago shape (a castle). Then we did our next bit of Christmas Play. We started in our classroom and them after play we carried on in the hall.

After lunch we did ICT using a program called 2publish. It is a first wordprocessor and lets us choose a page format them produce a drawing and some writing. Ben and Elliot and Abigail and Brogan did some fantastic work. We went to play and came back to use Knowledge Box for Science about how to use our senses in the dark to find things. We followed this by using Knowledge Box  to put instructions in the right order. We went back into the ICT room and chose to carry on with 2publish or use the Green Park website. Year 1 are excellent at using computers.

Just before we went home we got a letter about the Christmas Play and a letter about Father Christmas. Everyone said, “good afternoon Mr Rafferty, good Mrs Cassidy” got a carton of milk and then…………..went home! In the words of Mr Bear………..”peace at last!”

(We had a few little people off today because they have been poorly. Get better and we hope to see you back soon.)

Monday

November 27th, 2006

Today seemed to fly by! We started with assembly.

The Infants Christmas play is coming so we had our first hall practice with Y2. There is a lot of hard work in the days ahead, learning lines, singing songs and getting costumes.

After a “will it, wont it rain” kind of lunchtime we did some Numeracy Assessment as well as independent work. Ben showed everyone the drawings he had done at home. They are great and his mum helped lots by stapling them all together to make four different books. Once we had tidied up we had story time, “The Monster Tree” (a bit scary) and the tale of the raindrops. These stories come from “Fairy Tales” by Terry Jones. There are some great stories in this book.

Then we went home. The day flew by!

Typing skills

November 24th, 2006

There is a great typing skills game on the BBC website. If you look at our Games section and click on the link you will be taken straight there.

We had some important visitors in our classroom on Wednesday. They were head teachers from other schools in Maghull. They came to look at a new reporting and assessment package, the podcasting done by Y6 (which is absolutely fab!)  and our website. They thought the website, especially Y1’s and Receptions were great and one of the best bits was all the comments that everybody sends. Our class love to read the things that people write about our activities. Red is very funny!

Zips are great for keeping warm

November 23rd, 2006

We have been making sure that when we put our coats on we are fully zipped (or buttoned) up! If we find zipping tricky then our friends help us to make sure that we are nice and warm.

By the way Y6 have been busy podcasting and their first show can be found either in the Y6 section or the Office blog.

Mrs Farmer and Mrs Brankin thought Y1 were great!

November 9th, 2006

Today Mr Rafferty was connecting computer wires and attending a meeting in Formby, Mrs Cassidy was in the Nursery so Mrs Farmer and Mrs Brankin were the Year 1 Chief Pirates. They both thought that Y1 were great. Mrs Farmer was very impressed with Reece and his squared paper work!

After school Mr Rafferty played football and scored a really good goal and then had a lovely trip to IKEA to get some stools for the new computer room. We will try them out tomorrow.
