Conkers and Leaves

September 27th, 2006

This is our poem about conkers and leaves. We looked and felt some new conkers and then went for a walk round the school looking, feeling and  listening to all the different leaves.

We thought of all the words ourselves and practiced saying it before we made our final recording.

Sophie’s sums

September 24th, 2006

Even though Sophie has a broken leg it doesn’t stop her doing her sums (although they were a bit hard for her Uncle James). Her dad promised that he didn’t give her the answers!

Just a quick post.

We had an assembly with Rev. Leathley which was all about listening. When we came back to class we did some CVC words and learnt about making the right sounds with letters. Our word maker made some funny words but it helped up say our sounds. Try it again at home  http://www.primaryresources.co.uk/online/cvcwords1.swf

We did a worksheet as well……………

After first play we wrote numbers up to ten, making sure that they were written the right way round and in the right way. Practice at home……as Tesco say “every little helps!”

After lunch we had a bit of Science. As part of ourselves topic we have to use our senses so we listened to different sounds and try to recognise what they were.

After last play we designed a home fo Barnaby Bear and his friends and had a story called “The Smartest Giant in Town”. Then we tried to match up children, jumpers, coats, water bottles and reading books. We very nearly succeeded!

p.s. Don’t foret the camels!

Champion Child

On Friday we had our first Champion Child. Well done Bethany.

Tuesday

Today we did lots of different things.

We started by doing some alphabet work at registration and then found out what Sydney Bear was up to and the messages he has received. After that we looked at CVC words that had i in the middle. You can find the words at

http://www.primaryresources.co.uk/english/englishA1.htm#cvc

We went for a nature walk……looking for conkers………..but only Abbie found one. We are beginning to notice that there a leaves falling from the trees. We are going to watch them because they will be startng to change colour soon. When we came back we had a look at our counting pennies worksheets. We try to make sure that we CC (count carefully) and then CC (colour carefully) as well as writing our names properly.

The worksheets we used are

Then it was playtime.

We got changed for P.E. after play and made sure our clothes were carefully folded on our chairs so that we would know where they were after we had finished.  Afterwards we put our bags away and went for lunch.

When we came back we had ICT and used http://www.citycreator.com/ to make an imaginary town.

After all this we finally completed “Fantastic Mr Fox”. It had a happy ending but not for Boggis, Bunce and Bean!

Sydney Bear

Hello everyone

I have sent a reply to Y1 in my first post. I did say to Tom that I would get French Bear to send a photograph of him and his tractor and here it is.

CIMG1321.JPG He likes to drive this big machine but Uncle John has’nt fixed the drive belt yet so he can’t move it at the moment.

Friday in Year1

September 15th, 2006

Today we started with the register. We use the initials of our names and everyone has to guess whose name it is. The we read Sophie’s e-mail before we went into the hall for an infant sing. (The juniors usually join us but they had a fencing assembly today - with swords not long planks of wood!) Mrs Reed is great at coming up with fun songs to sing but she picks on Mr Rafferty to do the actions! When we came back into class we watched a Knowledge Box production of different body parts for Science and there was a worksheet to complete. We carried on after play but we sneaked out onto the playground to do some skipping. Girls are great at skipping! We did some alphabet work as well when we came back.

After lunch we joined the Number Crew with numbers up to 20 and if we had finished all our work we could choose to play. The best thing we did all day was to tidy up the classroom and Mr Rafferty was very pleased to see all the tops on the Prittsticks.

Finally the school had the first Celebration Assembly of the year presented, for the first time by Miss Gibson. Y1’s first Champion Child is Bethany……..I will put a photograph on the website tomorrow. After all this we went home. We will see everyone on Monday.

A quick hello to Thomas who I saw in his mum and dad’s car tonight after I had finished playing football. We won 6-3 and for once a managed to score a really good goal!

Have a nice weekend everyone.
